Introducing: AllTrack Solution's New Mobile App

RAD Technologies, a software development company, has come to me to help in the design of a new Company in production called AllTrack.  AllTrack is a preventative maintenance company for HVAC, fire life safety, and other building facilities that utilizes a new technology called “the Internet of Things”.  The Internet of Things is the idea that machines can communicate to each other without human interference or interaction.

Many corporate buildings have HVAC, Fire life safety, and other units on the top of the buildings that require maintenance,

but often times companies do not realize that their units need to be maintained until it is too late and damage has occurred.  Often the issue is not so much that building owners forget about their units, but that they do not have the time or the resources to properly check these hard to reach units; only to have to call a technician to double check on the unit anyway.

AllTrack has created a way to bypass this enduring maintenance process and allow the machines to communicate directly to specific maintenance technicians via mobile device.  The app that I am creating is an app that will receive this signal and be used by the technician or Preventative Maintenance Vendors (PM Vendors) to locate and monitor building units, schedule preventative maintenance, complete jobs, and send invoices.

Persona

This app will be specifically geared towards men or women who repair and maintain HVAC units and other building facilities. Al is a technician who would most likely be a user of this app.

Competitive Analysis

Because there is no mobile app out there for AllTrack's PM Vendors, I drew references from apps that I have used that utilize the features that I felt would work best for this type of app.

Hand Drawn Prototypes

Quickly brainstorming some ideas, I sketched out a few potential designs for the main pages of the new app.

The User Flow

I then outlined the functions of each feature of the app, making sure I included any possible functional path.

After submitting this design for feedback, realized there was a better way to design this.  Instead of using a "unit" to sort the information in the middle tab, it would be easier to navigate and more efficient to sort by "building".  I also replaced the scan tool with a to-do list to allow the user to keep track of.
